Here are some detail shots showing my usual brushwork finish for the fantasy images. Basically, I will
paint everything smooth first in Photoshop, then smear things around a bit, then refine with textural brushwork that is like
drybrushing over a rough watercolor paper. You can get a lot of realism out of loose strokes if you vary the size and how
much each stroke drops new color or texture over the underlying work. I tend to use minimal layers and paint back from saved
history states if I feel I have pushed the effects too far, but in the end, its very similar to working large on heavy canvas
with big brushes.
Above and Below- Line on Watercolor paper, transparent oil over line, then digitally enhancements.
